Vintage Arabia Black Paratiisi Oval Serving Bowl – Birger Kaipiainen, 1970–1974
An original vintage Black & White Paratiisi oval serving bowl, designed by renowned Finnish ceramic artist Birger Kaipiainen for Arabia.
The iconic Paratiisi pattern was designed in 1969 and is characterised by its abundant composition of fruits, berries, violets and flowing botanical forms. In this early monochrome version, the intricate decoration is rendered entirely in black and white, giving the design an especially striking and graphic appearance.
This example belongs to the original 1970s production and bears the vintage Arabia Wärtsilä Finland backstamp. The oval BK-model bowl measures approximately 23 × 20 cm and 6 cm high. Finnish vintage references document the corresponding original bowl at approximately 23 × 21 × 6–6.4 cm.
Made in Finland from hard faience, this is an original vintage example rather than a later reproduction.
